All Beware the Beast, 2026

Mixed Media Installation

Single-channel video with sound, and mixed-media paintings in oil and soft pastel on canvas

All Beware the Beast is an animated drawing that functions as a rhythmic exploration of temporal space through stop motion gestures. Developed from a foundation in both visual art and music, the work utilizes rapid, flickering linework and expressive color to investigate the boundary between figuration and abstract pulse. In this piece, the traditional medium of drawing is transformed into a kinetic experience where layers of red and blue strokes oscillate between organic forms and pure energy. Reimagining drawing as a temporal and perceptual field where rhythm becomes a force of reckoning and repair, the work pulses with intensity to confront the velocity of contemporary media. The Beast serves as a metaphor for systemic frictions that fracture our coherence, mirroring the constant churn of content and the confusion of urgency with chaos. The work is intended to be played as a continuous loop. Within this cycle, repetition mirrors the overload of contemporary visual culture, positioning sustained attention as both the subject under pressure and a site of tension within the image itself. The work functions as a warning signal, capturing the friction of our constant digital intake.

Each of the three paintings returns to one individual frame pulled directly from the animation, the same red and blue charge that runs through the video now given full size and stillness on canvas. The gesture is large, closer to the scale and looseness of abstract painting than to a drawn line on paper, even though the marks still carry the DNA of the many individual drawings that built the film. Oil and soft pastel meet on the surface, and two of the three canvases are mounted on flat wood board instead of stretched, holding the surface close to how paper sits flat on a wall. After the flicker and overload of the loop, a viewer gets one frame, formed and coherent, long enough to actually look at.

All Beware the Beast was selected for two exhibitions in 2026: RestART at Golden Duck Gallery in Budapest, opening in April, and Drawing Now at the CICA Museum in South Korea, opening in October. The paintings have not yet been shown. The proposal here brings video and paintings into the same room for the first time, the video projected large with sound, the paintings on the walls around it, the loop and the stillness of the drawings that made it sharing one space.
